Waterside site in Bristol bought for mixed-use scheme

Jersey-based property developer Albion Yard has bought a 1.5-acre waterside site next to the SS Great Britain in the Bristol dockyards for a mixed-use development.

The Albion Yard site on Gasferry Road includes the formers McArthurs Warehouse, the site for many of engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s workshops during the construction of the ship. In recent years it has fallen vacant.

The land has been earmarked for a residential and commercial redevelopment, with three new buildings and a new central square, comprising four 57,141 sq ft of offices, 65 apartments, 4,170 sq ft of retail and 4,260 sq ft of restaurants and bars.

There will also be secure underground parking.

Withy King Solicitors acted on behalf of Albion Yard in the purchase of the land and Anglo Irish Bank and Investec Bank provided funding for the deal.

Albion is working up planning and hopes to have the development completed by 2011.
