Watford Council secures two retailers for former Woolworths store
The building will be split into two shops with popular clothes retailer, Peacocks, taking 29-31 High Street and mixed offer retailer Life & Style moving into the rest of the ground floor as well as the first floor at 33-35 High Street.
The council has started construction to get the building ready for the new tenants to move in July. Peacocks and Life & Style are anticipated to start trading at the end of September.
Mayor of Watford, Dorothy Thornhill, said: “This is great news for the town. The council bought the old empty Woolies building last year, as it was a key site for Charter Place.
“These agreements mean that we have got flexible tenants who can offer a good shopping experience for our residents. Also, we are told that the value of the property has significantly increased, so we got a good deal.”
