Watford mayor hails CSC plans

Watford’s elected mayor has hailed Capital Shopping Centres’ plans for an £80m redevelopment of Charter Place.

Dorothy Thornhill hailed the progress being made towards the redevelopment of Charter Place after CSC said it intended to submit an application in early 2013.

CSC has also released an image of what the scheme might look like.

CSC’s £80m project will focus on improving the retail, entertainment and leisure offer, and will include a cinema, restaurants, shops and a supermarket.

Thornhill said: “We’re very fortunate that while shopping centre schemes up and down the country are floundering, ours is progressing. We have an excellent partner in Capital Shopping Centres, who share our aspirations for the town.

“The bottom line for me is that Watford residents deserve the best and I’m confident they’re going to get it.”

CSC asset management director Jonathan Ainsley added: “Providing a strong mix of leisure and catering facilities to support our retail offer is hugely important to us to ensure that visitors experience a vibrant place to shop, relax and spend time together in the town centre.”
