Watkin Jones has exchanged contracts with Europa Generation Student for the forward sale of its 197-bedroom development in Canterbury, Kent.
Watkin Jones will receive £19.6m in funding for the student accommodation development, which has planning consent and is earmarked for completion in time for the 2020/21 academic year.
The UK developer has also secured planning permission for another student accommodation scheme in Leicester.
The 12-storey development will contain 462 bedrooms as well as amenity space and a commercial unit on the ground floor.
The scheme is scheduled for completion for the 2021/22 academic year.
Adjacent to this development, planning has been secured for a build-to-rent development consisting of 184 flats and car parking, which is expected to be completed in 2021.
Watkin Jones has also secured a site close to Exeter city centre and is looking to attain planning permission for a 170-bedroom student development for the 2022/23 academic year.
In its build-to-rent portfolio, Watkin Jones has secured a site in Brighton & Hove with planning permission for 186 residential flats and more than 21,000 sq ft of commercial space.
The scheme is earmarked for delivery in 2022.
Richard Simpson, chief executive officer of Watkin Jones, said: “We continue to see positive momentum across all key areas of the business.
“Our six PBSA schemes for delivery in 2019 are on track for completion ahead of the 2019/20 academic year and we continue to see an encouraging pipeline of potential future sites across the UK.”
Watkin Jones’ total development pipeline targeted for delivery between 2019-2022 is over 9,000 student beds across 20 sites. Combined, they have a net development value of approximately £850m.
