Waugh resigns as Liverpool LDC chief

David Waugh, chief executive of Liverpool Land Development Company (LLDC), has resigned ahead of a reorganisation of Liverpool’s public sector regeneration quangos.

Waugh, who had been head of the organisation since 2002, has left for “personal reasons”.

Liverpool city council leader Warren Bradley is spearheading a reorganisation of local regeneration bodies – nicknamed a “bonfire of the quangos” – which will see LLDC merged with Liverpool Vision and Business Liverpool.

Liverpool Vision chief executive Jim Gill emerged as favourite to lead the new body, provisionally known as Liverpool plc, shortly after Bradley announced the plan.

As revealed by EG earlier this month, Bradley has targeted MIPIM as a likely launch date for Liverpool plc.

A provisional body will be launched on April 1, with a full organisation launched within the next year.

Waugh said: “Both the board and management are extremely positive about the opportunity for LLDC to become part of a bigger and better resourced and empowered company.

“The skills, experience and capabilities of LLDC, Liverpool Vision and Business Liverpool will allow the new organisation to deliver a bold and ambitious economic growth and physical delivery programme across Liverpool.”

Bradley said: “David Waugh has made a major contribution to the regeneration of the city over the last four years.

“During that time LLDC has helped to attract or safeguard thousands of jobs and brought in hundreds of millions of pound of investment to the city and David has played a pivotal role in helping transform the fortunes of the city.”

Waugh’s last day in post will be 31 May 2007.

He is said to be considering a return to the private sector roots or taking a break to go sailing.
