Neath Port Talbot Council and the Welsh Development Agency (WDA) have jointly unveiled £230m regeneration plans for Port Talbot, South Wales. The linchpin of the 10-year strategy will be a 263.06ha (650 acre) “energy park”, the first of its kind in Wales. The WDA has earmarked £2.7m for the first phase of the park.
With motorway, rail and sea access, it will provide a landscaped setting for clean manufacturing. It will have its own utility services including electricity generated by a BP Chemicals power station which has spare capacity. It is to be marketed to high-energy users and suppliers to the £1.7bn electronics project being established by LG of South Korea in Newport.
About £39m will be spend on a peripheral distributor road to improve access to the docks.
