WDA completes 113-acre land deal in north Wales

The Welsh Development Agency (WDA) has completed one of the UK’s largest land deals.

It has bought a 113-acre (51.40ha) site at Holyhead from industrial company Anglesey Aluminium for a mixed use scheme to include a business park and hotel.

The agency said acquisition and infrastructure costs for the site totalled £10.5m.

It is anticipated that the private sector will develop the majority of the site with support from the WDA and Welsh Assembly.

Outline planning permission has already been granted for the development by Isle of Anglesey County Council.

Welsh Economic Development Minister Andrew Davies said, “Plans for a high quality development on this site will not only offer the potential to attract high quality investment to the area but also to create a significant number of jobs.”

The site adds to a string of key WDA employment sites along the main A55 corridor through North Wales – including Deeside Industrial Park in Flintshire, St Asaph Business Park in Denbighshire, The Point at Llandudno Junction in Conwy and Parc Bryn Cegin in Gwynedd.

Chris Farrow of the WDA, said: “This is a critically important development for Anglesey in terms of attracting new jobs and investment into the area.”

Work on infrastructure works will begin next year subject to European Objective 1 funding and detailed planning permission.
