WDA signs up car component supplier for £10.7m factory in Resolven, Neath

The WDA and Neath Port Council have signed up TRW Toyoda Automotive (TTA) for a £10.7m factory on the Neath Vale Supplier Park in Resolven, Neath.

The new plant will comprise 9,290 sq m (100,000 sq ft) on a 4.047ha (10 acre) site and supply car components directly into the adjacent TRW plant.

The project is being supported by the Welsh Office through Regional Selective Assistance. the new factory is expected to be completed by the end of 1998.

Meanwhile, Welsh Office (WO) minister, Peter Hain used the announcement to launch a new government strategy aimed at creating new industrial parks to be known as “industrial villages” to attract investment into the South Wales Valleys.

A department spokesman said: “At this early stage, we don’t know how much money the government will invest in this scheme, what infrastructural improvement we will need or when initiatives will start. But we want to create similar schemes to that announced today at Resolven which will regenerate the former mining and we are talking with all the relevant agencies in order to make this happen.”

According to the WO, Neath Vale is the first dedicated supplier park in Wales.
