We need ‘meaningful improvements’ to planning, says Grainger’s Gordon

Grainger chief executive Helen Gordon has gazed into the crystal ball to see what 2024 holds.

“There is little sign that the number of rental homes will increase,” she told The Times.

“Increasing housing supply is the only way to address the pressures being felt in the housing market. However, many of the traditional main players aren’t in a position to increase supply. Delivery needs to be unlocked by meaningful improvements to the planning process.”

She said the year would be characterised by an increase of “long-term, patient private capital to invest in affordable homes”, and hoped for more incentives for downsizing and council housing development.
