Westfield Stratford City wins gold

Westfield-Stratford-THUMB.jpegWestfield Stratford City is the top shopping centre in the UK, according to new research.

Going Shopping 2015 – A Definitive Guide to Shopping Centres’, by Trevor Wood associates found the east London mall was the UK’s most attractive venue for shoppers, retailers and investors.

Bluewater in Kent moved up this year’s ranking to take second spot, leapfrogging Westfield London which was relegated to third.

There have also been 19 changes in the top 20 owners and investment managers this year. La Salle Investment Management has replaced intu properties at the top of the table, having added 13 malls this year, taking its total portfolio to 46.

However, intu remains the top director owner and the largest owner in terms of square footage.

NewRiver Retail, has jumped 11 places to fifth position and now owns 26 centres. In 2011 NewRiver owned just seven centres and only 14 last year. F&C REIT Asset Management, which has never been in the top 20, moved into ninth place.

Trevor Wood of Trevor Wood Associates said: “There are some perhaps surprising results this year across the board. Liverpool One and Canary Wharf have moved up the table and several of the larger centres such as Intu Metrocentre and intu Eldon Square have slipped down the rankings.”
