Westfield’s revised proposals for its stalled Broadway development in Bradford have been approved.
Bradford council’s regulatory and appeals committee today granted planning permission for the Australian developer’s proposed £275m mall. The application comprises 75 shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.
Westfield put the development on hold at the end of 2008 as the recession took hold. It submitted new detailed plans to Bradford council earlier this year, which downsized and reconfigured the floorspace. It is thought to have cut the number of shops by 25%, although it has retained its two anchor stores, Marks & Spencer and Debenhams.
Westfield is also thought to have shaved off some of the office provision.
As revealed by Estates Gazette, Meyer Bergman is in talks to provide a slug of equity to breath new life into the development.
A Bradford council spokesman said: “The planning application from Westfield was approved at the council’s Regulatory and Appeals Committee today. Westfield is progressing with prelets, and having planning permission for the revised scheme in place will aid that work. The Broadway site is a key regeneration project in the district, and we are continuing to support Westfield in its work to attract tenants to the scheme.”
