Westminster city council is taking trade union Unison to court in an attempt to end the strike that has crippled its planning department.
As the strike enters its sixth week, staff from building control have joined staff from the planning, licensing and traffic control departments.
The councils lawyers have sent Unison a letter of intent, stating that the council staffs strike is illegal because Unison balloted members only for a week-long walkout, not an indefinite strike.
Unison has refuted the accusation, and claims that the ballot was perfectly legal.
Unison is insisting that the council supplies details of the deal to transfer council services to outsourcing consortium Vertex (SW1).
