Weston Homes is to submit plans this summer for a 1,000-home scheme in Barking, north London, after acquiring a six-acre site from Estates & Agency Properties.
The £300m mixed-tenure waterfront development will be one of the largest so far submitted to Be First, the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham’s pioneering urban regeneration company.
A new Sainsbury’s supermarket was originally planned for the site, which is adjacent to Be:Living’s scheme of 597 rental homes that is expected to start construction later this year.
Estates & Agency Properties paid £24.8m for the site in 2006.
Bob Weston, chairman and chief executive of Weston Homes, said the regeneration formed part of the borough council’s vision of bringing aspirational waterfront living and regeneration to Barking.
“Attracting new people and inward investment, this new residential destination for Barking will provide private sale homes and affordable housing for local people and families on lower incomes,” he added.
