Wet July dampens retail sales

A wet July dampened retail demand as Britons stayed away from the high street.

Latest figures from the British Retail Consortium’s sales monitor show that sales rose by 1.5% last month, a marked fall from the previous July’s 2.3% growth. Last July was notable for its heatwave.

It is also well below the three-month average of 3.5%.
