Mayfair agent Wetherell has won a high court order to freeze Westminster city council from implementing new parking charges.
The high court has scrapped West End evening and Sunday parking charges that were due to come into effect on 9 January 2012, until the judicial review application brought by Peter Wetherell, managing director of Wetherell, is heard in March next year.
Honourable Mr Justice Collins said in his judge’s decision: “There is a real risk of substantial damage to businesses if it goes ahead. The consultation was arguably far too limited.”
The decision comes after Wetherell collected 1,966 signatures opposing the parking charges. The names contributed to 15,600 signatures collected by several West End businesses.
Companies such as The Howard de Walden Estate claimed that the charges could reduce trade and ultimately lose it tenants on Marylebone High Street.
