WeWork confirms expansion to Birmingham’s 6 Brindleyplace

WeWork has confirmed the acquisition of seven floors at 6 Brindleyplace in Birmingham.

The 97,000 sq ft letting will be the largest Birmingham location for WeWork, as revealed by EG in March. It is the largest letting deal in Birmingham this year.

6 Brindleyplace was designed by Allies and Morrison. It features a double-height reception area, open-plan floorplates arranged around a glazed central atrium, with ground-floor restaurant space.

WeWork will take over from the Royal Bank of Scotland, which currently has 10 years remaining on its lease. It will begin refurbishment of the building immediately and plans to open for business in the first quarter of 2020. The building is owned by HSBC Alternative Investments and managed by Hines UK.

The deal follows leasings at Louisa Ryland House and 55 Colmore Row earlier this year.

Mary Finningan, head of transactions at WeWork EMEA, real estate, said: “We recognised the demand to expand in Birmingham, and our hope is that our community across the UK and Ireland – which is now 50,000 members – will benefit from having access to our spaces in Birmingham, a city which has proven to be very attractive for entrepreneurs, start-ups and large businesses.”

Raj Rajput, head of asset management for Hines, said: “6 Brindleyplace provides a rare opportunity to offer a bespoke headquarters building in the heart of the city.”

Charles Toogood of Avison Young added: “Seeing WeWork commit to the city at this scale is undoubtedly a huge vote of confidence for Birmingham.”

Avison Young and Savills advised asset managers Hines. JLL advised WeWork.
