WeWork is to open its first UK location outside London at Manchester’s 1 Spinningfields, the tallest commercial building to be built in the city in the last 50 years.
It is 20th site the co-working company has announced in the UK, 14 of which are already open in the capital.
WeWork said it targeted Manchester because of the growing media and technology presence in the city. Almost 8,000 firms in the sector started up in the region in 2016.
Last September, EG reported that the company had begun a preliminary search in the city for its first UK site outside London (http://www.egi.co.uk/news/wework-targets-manchester-for-regional-debut/)
Jon Gaunt, UK managing director at WeWork, said: “Manchester is an obvious choice for our second city. It couples a vibrant cultural heritage with an established desirable business location.
“The city has excellent infrastructure and a growing tech and start-up sector and is showing itself to be an increasingly appealing destination providing a fantastic work life balance.”
The company has 140 physical locations across 15 countries and 45 cities with more than 120,000 members globally.
