WeWork targets Japanese big business in aggressive expansion

A small team of employees from Japan’s Kawasaki Heavy seemed out of place when they first showed up in suits at a WeWork office in Tokyo’s main business district, where most workers were wearing T-shirts and chinos.

But the team were quickly won over by the hip, creative vibe at the new shared office space — and decided that it offered the right environment for them to bring diversity and innovation to the 122-year-old group that makes everything from motorcycles to ships and trains.

Interest from large, traditional companies such as Kawasaki Heavy is fuelling WeWork’s bullish outlook that Japan could become one of its core international growth markets.
