WeWork teams up with Gymbox in back-to-office push

WeWork customers will soon be able to access a range of fitness classes for free, including “fight” and “aerial” category sessions, as part of a push to help entice people back to the office.

The flexible working giant has partnered with Gymbox, giving members access to the fitness company’s offbeat selection of exercise classes both in WeWork’s own dedicated wellness spaces and at Gymbox’s 11 London sites.

Gymbox made its name with its unusual offering of fitness groups, with some featuring live DJs. WeWork customers will also be able to access a range of video sessions designed for people working from home.

Mathieu Proust, WeWork’s general manager for the UK, Ireland and emerging markets, said: “We understand the importance of having a diverse workspace that not only caters to varying working needs but also prioritises employee wellbeing.

“We know flexibility will now define the future of work, and Gymbox’s on-demand content underscores this shift; enabling our members to get involved and keep fit, even when working from home.”

It comes as office companies make a concerted push to lure employees back to the workplace after more than a year of remote working. Last month, Helical chief executive Gerald Kaye predicted an increased “hotelification” of office buildings in the wake of the pandemic.

Marc Diaper, Gymbox CEO, said: “The demand for flexibility in where, when and how we work out has increased immensely; this means WeWork members will be able to factor in training and exercise freely and conveniently while feeling part of a community, which is a great benefit for physical and mental wellbeing.”
