An associate partner at Weatherall Green & Smith (WG&S) has left to build a data-storage centre advisory company. It will be the first to offer brokerage and market research.
Jon Snow, formerly head of e-business at WG&S, has joined forces with former Pillar Property investment analyst Jonathan Heap, to create iX Consulting. The move aims to create Europes leading data centre consultancy. The company officially launches in June, and will analyse every data centre market in Europe.
Start-up capital for iX will come from the two founders, although Snow has invited WG&S to take a 25% stake. He also claims to have received interest from a number of investors.
Snow, who will head the market research division, said: “We aim to create a bible for investment brokers and players in the data centres market.”
The main research will be aimed at data-storage centre investors. There will also be a cut-down, cheaper version for third parties wanting to get into the market. Snow added: “The research division will be a our rock. It is recession-proof – even when the market is down, people need to know that its down.”
Documents are expected to be sold for £8,500 each.
Snow said that the high-risk, high-growth part of the business is the brokerage, which will be headed by Heap. “There is clearly a lot of money to be generated from this sector but there is a lack of transparency in the data-storage centre brokerage world. Our research will unmuddy the water,” said Snow.
