An employment tribunal has heard how former Brixton chief executive Tim Wheeler had his demand for a £1.88m boost to his pension rejected.
It was alleged at the tribunal that the board’s refusal lead to a breakdown in Wheeler’s relationships with fellow board members and to his dismissal. Lady Patten, former chairman, claimed Wheeler started to disengage from the running of the company and she alleged tried to extract as much money as he could although he allegedly told another director in December 2008 that he no longer wanted to retire and was going to stay on and “fight a guerrilla war against the non-executive directors.
Lady Patten claimed Wheeler hindered efforts for an emergency rights issue because of the pension dispute. Brixton’s legal team accepted when Wheeler left there was one “technical breach” of employment law. Wheeler is suing for unfair dismissal, breach of contract and failure to provide written reasons for dismissal. He left in March. Brixton is now owned by Segro.
