Endurance Estates and R G Carter have signed a development agreement with Dacorum borough council for the regeneration of Hemel Hempstead.
On 9 April, the council’s development control committee gave unanimous support for 207 town centre flats, a third of which will be classed as affordable.
Endurance Estates is looking to appoint a housebuilding partner for the residential development, which represents a £41m investment in the Hertfordshire new town.
Construction is also about to begin on a £17m, 70,000 sq ft home for Dacorum Borough Council, voluntary groups, the police’s safer neighbourhood team, a library and registrar services. The scheme is set for completion at the start of 2017.
A privately funded leisure development is also planned, including a 60,000 sq ft cinema and restaurant scheme into the town centre.
Tim Holmes, director at Endurance Estates, said: “The borough council’s proactive approach in co-ordinating the scheme is acting as a significant catalyst to revitalise Hemel Hempstead’s town centre.”
DTZ has been advising the council on the redevelopment.
