Family-owned spirits company Ian Macleod Distillers has secured planning permission for a whisky storage warehouse scheme at Throsk in Stirling.
The 20.2-acre development at Bandeath Industrial Estate by the river Forth will provide additional capacity for the company’s operations across Scotland.
It comprises nine whisky maturation warehouses, a blend centre with associated tank farm, and an office building.
The site has good transport links to other IMD sites and is zoned for employment use in Stirling’s local development plan.
Casks from IMD’s distilleries will be filled and matured at the site, augmenting the company’s existing warehouse storage capacity. The distilleries are Rosebank in Falkirk, Glengoyne in Stirlingshire, and Tamdhu in Knockando on Speyside.
In time, blended and single malt whisky will be transported by road tanker to IMD’s bottling facility in Broxburn. Once packaged, the products will be sold in the UK and exported to USA, Europe, and Far East.
Mike Younger, finance director for IMD, said the scheme would be highly sustainable and have minimal environmental impact.
