Whitbread opens at New Waverley

Premier-Inn-2015a

Two Whitbread hotels have opened at Edinburgh’s New Waverly development.

A Premier Inn and a Hub by Premier Inn have opened, providing a combined total of 248 rooms.

It is the first hub by Premier Inn to be opened outside of London.

Clive Wilding, project director for New Waverley, said: “The opening of the two Whitbread hotels at New Waverley marks an exciting turning point for the regeneration of this historic part of Edinburgh’s Old Town.

“It has been a great working partnership with Whitbread, and together we are at last breathing new life into what has been a neglected part of Edinburgh’s historic city centre.”

Developed by Artisan Real Estate Investors, the £150m New Waverley development occupies a 7.5-acre site linking Waverley Station to the Royal Mile.

Currently under construction is a 146-apartment Adagio Aparthotel facing directly on to the Royal Mile behind a retained façade of the C-listed Sailors Ark building, due for completion in November 2016, as well as a new £2m public square surrounded by shops and restaurants.

To start later this year is the second development phase, which includes two office buildings providing 160,000 sq ft of high-quality grade A office space, 148 apartments and new retail businesses including shops, restaurants and cafés.
