Allocations to real estate grew more than 15% to $2.5tn (£1.9tn) between June 2017 to June 2018.
The world’s largest property investors – known as the ‘Billion Dollar Club’ – accounted for 84% of all real estate assets under management despite comprising just 8% of all investors in the asset class, according to figures from Preqin.
The last 12 months have seen the number of Billion Dollar Club members rise 12.9% to 499.
More than three-quarters of these are based in North America and Europe, and two-thirds are public and private pension funds or insurance companies.
