Why Aon took space in the Cheesegrater

Cheesegrater-2014-THUMB.jpegWATCH: EG goes behind the scenes at Aon’s London headquarters at 122 Leadenhall Street, EC3 and asked the US insurer why it took space in the iconic Cheesegrater tower.

The firm is the principle occupier in the 610,000 sq ft tower and is in the process of moving into its 10 floors.

As many as 2,500 staff will relocate to what will be the company’s new global HQ – previously in Chicago – which influenced the decision to take space in a statement building.

Consolidating several offices into one building, the company decided to opt for modern working practices with break-out areas, pods and hot-desking, allocating eight formal desks for every 10 members of staff.

The choice of building was also important in order for the company to attract and retain staff.

“We loved the floorplate and the fact that we can occupy that in an agile way, in an open-plan way. We loved the location, loved the statement of the building, loved the memorable design,” said Jim Herbert, UK chief executive at Aon Risk Solutions.
