Wigan plans 400,000 sq ft facility

blueprints-construction-generic-THUMB.jpegPlans have been lodged for a 400,000 sq ft factory that Wigan council is calling the “biggest ever” building to be built in the borough.

Manufacturer Nice-Pak wants to build the facility on the Westwood development site, a remediated former power station and of the borough’s key sites.

Nice-Pak, which produces wet wipes for markets around the world, launched a search in 2013 to expand from its base in Hindley, greater Manchester.

Wigan has also this month announced a £60m redevelopment scheme in the city’s and a 10-year transformation plan for Wigan Pier.

Wigan council leader David Molyneux said: “This is hugely exciting news and yet another vote of confidence in the economy of Wigan borough.

“That a business already based here is keen to expand here in such an ambitious way shows that Wigan is an attractive place to build and expand a business. Creating the conditions for economic growth and supporting the private sector is a key priority for the council.”
