Wigan town centre revamp to accelerate with project director hire
Regeneration specialist Cityheart has bolstered its senior team with the appointment of Darren Jones as project director for Wigan Galleries.
Jones joins from Nikal, where he spent five years as development director working on BTR, retail, hotel and leisure projects across the North West and West Midlands. Prior to that, Jones was managing director at Wain Estates and director of development and infrastructure at Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council.
In his new role, Jones will lead on the redevelopment of the former Wigan Galleries shopping centre.

In March, Galliford Try was announced as Cityheart’s preferred construction partner on the scheme, which will deliver new homes, leisure and retail facilities as well as a modern market, food hall and 144-bedroom Hampton by Hilton hotel.
Warren Taylor, chief operating officer at Cityheart, said: “Darren brings with him a wealth of development and regeneration experience and join us to help drive the Wigan scheme forward.
“Our mission is to create sustainable developments through regeneration which deliver economic resilience, create opportunities and better places for people to live, work and study and Darren’s knowledge and leadership will be invaluable in doing just that initially for this Greater Manchester scheme.”
As well as joining Cityheart, Jones has also taken a non-executive board role with Wythenshawe Community Housing Group where he chairs their development committee.
