Wigan unveils £130m Galleries masterplan
Wigan Council has unveiled its masterplan for the £130m redevelopment of the Galleries Shopping Centre, after choosing a joint venture between Cityheart and Beijing Construction Engineering Group International as its development partner.
The joint venture, called Galleries25, will redevelop the 440,000 sq ft centre to provide a leisure complex comprising: a six-screen cinema; music and e-sports venue; bowling alley; indoor mini golf; and food and beverage spaces.
It will also provide a new hotel, 464 homes, a new market hall including co-working spaces and small offices, and a landscaped public square for outdoor events.

Construction is expected to start in early 2022, with completion set for 2025.
Council leader David Molyneux said: “Now more than ever it’s vital we do everything we can to create exciting and welcoming town centres to help support our local businesses and jobs.”
Mark McNamee, managing director at Cityheart, said the jv’s plans “recognise the significance that the Galleries site has in Wigan Council’s plans to regenerate and repurpose the town centre”.
