A wildlife charity has lost its legal challenge to plans to build a Royal Mail distribution hub on marshland in the Thames Gateway.
On Friday, Judge Mitting rejected Buglife’s application to apply for judicial review of Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation’s decision to give the go-ahead to the scheme at West Thurrock Marshes, Essex.
In 2006, Royal Mail and developer Rosemound were given permission to build a 205,000 sq ft distribution hub on the 45–acre site.
The charity alleged that the project threatened irrevocable damage to bees, spiders and beetles at an important wildlife site.
Buglife was refused permission to appeal to the Court of Appeal.
