Willy Brandt airport ‘to be hotel mecca’

Berlin’s new Willy Brandt airport in Schönefeld will become an important hotel location when it opens in March 2013, according to Oberhaching’s hotelforum management, which organises a European conference for hotel and real estate experts.

There are already five hotels operating in the area with two more under construction and seven more in planning. Among the future stock is Hamburg-based shopping centre manager and investor ECE’s four-star facility, which will be the only hotel with direct access to the airport terminal when it opens on 17 March 2013.

The 322-room hotel, to be managed by Steigenberger Hotels AG, was designed by Berlin-based architect Eike Becker.

Steigenberger Hotels already manages the InterCity Hotel, which was opened in 2010 at the Schönefeld railway station. Schönefeld also has a Holiday Inn Hotel and three-star Albergo hotel with 50 rooms.

Berlin-based Meininger Group runs a 151-bed hotel close to the new BBI business park.
