Wilson Bowden submits Derby office plans

Wilson Bowden has submitted a planning application to transform Derby’s derelict former Magistrates Court into a new office scheme.

The plans propose creating 27,000 sq ft of offices within the building, known locally as Full Street Police Station, which will sit alongside a new hotel development. The hotel plans will be submitted separately.

Subject to consent, the £3m scheme will be paid for out of Derby city council’s recently increased £17.5m regeneration fund to stimulate city centre development.

The office space will be marketed towards a mix of smaller businesses. Around 13,000 sq ft of the space will be used by the local studies library, which will relocate from its St Mary’s Street site. Meeting rooms and a café are also planned. The latter would have a new paved area outside in the restored Derwent Street gardens.

Adam Wilkinson, chief executive of Derby council, said: “For too long Full Street Police Station has stood derelict and our investment in the Magistrates’ Court unlocks the whole development.”

A decision on the planning application is due on 11 June.
