Wimborne Minster granted Waitrose store

East Dorset district council has granted planning permission for a 20,000 sq ft Waitrose supermarket and car park in Wimborne Minster, Dorset.

A separate approval for the relocation of the town centre cricket pitch was also required to free up the site for Waitrose.

Robin Meakins, partner at planning and architecture firm Barton Willmore, which advised Waitrose, said: “We are very pleased to have secured permission for the new Waitrose store after such an intensive and detailed planning process.

“We have worked hard to respect the Conservation Area, whilst responding to the clear retail need for a new food shop and lack of alternative sequential approach sites.

“It represented a difficult planning judgement but a good and fair process has ensured a positive decision was made for Wimborne’s future.”
