Wimpey unveils designs for Manchester residential tower

George Wimpey City has unveiled designs for a 23-storey residential scheme (pictured) on the Great Northern Tower site in central Manchester.

Wimpey recently acquired the 0.25-acre (0.1ha) site on Windmill St for £8m from Crest Nicholson and plans 236 flats in the 236 ft (72m) tower.

Work on the 23-storey landmark is expected to start early next year with completion planned for 2005.

The scheme aims to exploit demand for luxury flats in the city, following the success of Crosby Homes’ No1 Deansgate apartment block.

George Wimpey City is also behind Manchester’s £30m Ropeworks residential development in Castlefield.
