Winstar Communications has axed plans to wire up more than 200 buildings throughout the UK to high-speed internet connections.
The move comes after the company’s New York-based parent filed for bankruptcy in the UK.
Winstar has dissolved its five-strong property team based at Hammersmith.
It also emerged this week that Winstar has severed its relationship with GVA Grimley. It hired the agent last year to source buildings.
An insider revealed that the tie-up had failed to produce a single deal.
But a GVA Grimley spokeswoman said: “It was our decision. We didn’t have the resources to deal with their requirement.”
Winstar arrived in the country last year with ambitious plans to wire up “old-technology” buildings to broadband services.
But now it has been forced to rein back on expansion and instead concentrate on its portfolio of less than 100 buildings.
