Woking council approves 1,100-home development

Plans to develop around 1,100 new homes for sale and rent on a housing estate in Woking, Surrey, have been approved by the local council.

The existing number of homes on the 74-acre site will double from 570 to 1,142. Nearly half of these will be affordable.

The plans were put forward by Woking Borough Council-backed ThamesWey Developments and were approved yesterday evening (9 April).

Mark Rolt, chief executive of ThamesWey, said: “We’re looking forward to getting started on Canalside – a fantastic, environmentally friendly project that will create a truly sustainable community.

“The ThamesWey team, our architects and other development partners have remained committed over the long lead-up to this decision and we are all keen to begin work.”
