Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries improves and expands estate

Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries is improving and expanding its estate.

The company has reported that the number of pubs undergoing refurbishment has risen from 62 to 98. This includes 33 substantial developments. W&D has also expanded its range of theme pubs from 87 to 107 out of a total estate of 1,200.

It expects the Taverns pub-restaurant format to increase outlets from 25 to 40 by the year-end. Its Varsity chain of student-orientated pubs is likely to rise to nine in the same period.

W&D made these announcements at the same time as unveiling a 3% rise in half-year pre-tax profits to £18.8m. Sales rose 13% to £133.3m.
