The new owners of “Britain’s wonkiest pub”, which burnt down within days of them buying it, now face questioning by the police.
Carly Taylor and her husband Adam will be contacted by officers investigating the destruction of The Crooked House in Himley, Staffordshire, in a fire on Saturday.
The 19th-century pub, which had become a local landmark for its 16-degree tilt caused by subsidence, is now a pile of rubble after a digger pulled it down on Monday evening.
South Staffordshire District Council described the demolition as “completely unacceptable”.
Council leader Roger Lees said planning officers had visited the burnt-out pub on Monday and instructed that the structure should be preserved. This instruction has been ignored.
Andy Street, mayor of the West Midlands, has called for the pub to be rebuilt “brick-by-brick”.
