Woodford crisis prompts switch at Richard Buxton’s Merian Chrysalis trust

The fund manager carved out of Old Mutual by Richard Buxton is moving some of its investments in unlisted companies into its listed trust.
Amid scrutiny of unquoted stocks after the Woodford affair, Merian Global Investors said yesterday that its Merian Chrysalis investment trust would raise at least £100 million from a share placing and would use about half the proceeds to buy unlisted stocks held in the firm’s open-ended funds.
The crisis that engulfed Neil Woodford, the renowned stockpicker, has drawn attention to funds that hold highly illiquid unquoted stocks.
