WPA alarmed at CIL proposals

The Westminster Property Association said it was alarmed at Westminster council’s proposed rates for the community infrastructure levy.

The reaction comes after the council yesterday approved the first stage of the development of a CIL. It published a draft charging schedule that will go out to consultation.

WPA chairman Daniel Van Gelder said: “We are alarmed at the disproportionate levels of CIL that have been proposed by Westminster city council. Our main concern is that the levels will significantly impact the amount of affordable housing being built and the support of direct improvements to public realm in Westminster. We will review the proposals and respond formally later this month.”

CIL is a government scheme that allows councils to levy a charge on developments.
