Local investor Wrenbridge is preparing to submit plans for a sporting village development in Cambridge.
The group, which is working on the £15m project with Grosvenor, has brought forward its timetable for the scheme. It had expected to submit plans in February 2013.
The project includes a stadium, which will become the new home for Cambridge United FC, as well as 600 homes. Proceeds from the sale of the residential element will help pay for the scheme.
Chris White, director at Wrenbridge, said: “If we go down the immediate application route, then we could be seeing the team play in the stadium in 2016-17. If we go down the local plan route, then it will be two years later, even if we twin-tracked the application with the local plan.”
Wrenbridge, backed by Grosvenor, bought Cambridge United FC’s existing Abbey stadium in 2010 and began the hunt for a new ground.
