Years of pain for supermarkets

Sir Ian Cheshire, the outgoing boss of retail group Kingfisher, has said that is could take years for supermarkets to turn around their performance.

He said that there was a ‘much bigger problem coming down the track’ as supermarkets grapple with the reality of falling sales and having too many stores in the UK.

Sir Ian said that he did not see how supermarkets could not follow a similar strategy to his own at the helm of B&Q of retiring space.
