Investment firm Yoo Capital has partnered with affordable housing provider Places for People on proposals to develop “hundreds” of homes at Camden Film Quarter, its £110m film-led scheme in Kentish Town, NW5.
The vision for a sustainable mixed-use campus at the site was set out earlier this year.
Half of the total residential offer across land owned by Yoo Capital will be dedicated to “high-quality” affordable homes.
Lloyd Lee, managing partner at Yoo Capital, said: “Our partnership with Places for People is a clear demonstration of our dedication to the needs of the community, enabling us to bring forward 50% affordable housing across the land we own in the Camden Film Quarter campus.
“We are very proud to be partnering with Places for People and their extraordinarily talented team and we are excited to welcome their ideas to the Camden Film Quarter masterplan vision as we engage with local residents and stakeholders.”
Sammie Steele, managing director, placemaking and regeneration at Places for People, said: “We love working in partnerships that strive to keep the history of a place alive and create communities that people are proud to call their home. We see this with our existing communities in Camden and at EastWick + Sweetwater on the Olympic Park.”
Steele said “a unique, creative and animated community” will be brought forward, adding: “Building new homes that create vibrant, thriving communities is at our core. We are committed to delivering much more needed affordable housing for Londoners as well as across the UK.”
Danny Beales, Camden Council’s cabinet member for new homes, jobs and community investment, said: “We know that there is a chronic shortage of suitable, affordable family homes in Camden and across London.
“This agreement guarantees that 50% of the new homes built on the land Yoo Capital has bought will be genuinely affordable, fit for purpose and will ensure that we can develop a thriving neighbourhood for local people that provides good jobs and opportunities for our existing communities as well as being a beacon for creativity.
“We will be working with residents on realising a shared community vision and getting residents’ thoughts at every stage. We see this development as a way to help combat many of the issues residents are facing in Camden.”
Camden Film Quarter is under a subject-to-planning basis with a masterplan expected this year.
