Yorkshire County Cricket Club is to leave Headingley and move its headquarters to a £50m state-of-the-art complex close to the M1 at Wakefield. It will be built on a 97.13 ha (240 acre) site alongside junction 39 of the M1.
It will boast a £32m stadium with a capacity of 25-30,000 spectators, a cricket academy, cricket museum, five practice pitches and facilities for other sports. Facilities will also include parking for 1,400 cars, a railway station, a marina, picnic areas, riverside walks and hotel and catering facilities.
The proposed funding includes a National Lottery grant of £28m, European grants worth £6.93m, £15m from public and private sector investment and £400,000 from sports-related bodies.
