Zara is the latest big-name fashion brand to sign up with the new £350m
Shires mixed-use complex in Leicester.
Its Spanish parent, Inditex, has taken 22,000 sq ft over three floors of the
650,000 sq ft scheme, developed as a jv between Hermes and Hammerson.
Zara’s arrival, following Next, New Look and River Island (who together took
just over 86,000 sq ft) means four of the large store spaces in the mall area
have been let.
Hammerson’s UK retail leasing director, Sheila King, says almost 60% of the
new space is now let, two years ahead of completion.
The new Shires, anchored by a four-level John Lewis store of 204,000 sq ft,
will form an extension to the old Shires centre, which is being refurbished.
The scheme also includes 140 apartments and the city centre’s first
multiplex, plus restaurants and bars.
Joint letting agents are Cushman & Wakefield, and Donaldsons.
