Middlewood-THUMBChinese firm backs McCabe

Kevin McCabe’s Scarborough Group has secured the backing of a Chinese investor for £1.2bn of projects in the North of England.

Hualing Industry and Trade Group has agreed to back the £730m Middlewood Locks project in Salford, Greater Manchester (pictured), the £400m Thorpe Park project in Yorkshire and the £40m Sheffield Digital Campus.

JLL takes DTZ’s Bishop

JLL has poached one of the North West’s best-known agents, Ken Bishop, from Cushman & Wakefield.

The move comes after JLL’s North West development director Adam White left to join Manchester Airports Group.

Bishop will join JLL’s senior team, working alongside the investment, agency and development teams.

L&G jv to deliver in Cardiff

L&G has struck a joint venture deal with Rightacres to deliver the 1m sq ft Foster+Partners-designed Central Square regeneration of Cardiff city centre.

Phase one, due to complete in January, includes the 150,000 sq ft BBC Wales HQ and One Central Square.

Telford unites London projects

London-focused house builder Telford Homes has acquired the regeneration business of United House Development for £23m.

Assets include the £200m City North in Finsbury Park, N4; the £15m Balfron Tower refurbishment in Poplar, E14; a 50% stake valued at £75m in two phases of Gallions Quarter, E6, and the £300m Chrisp Street Market, E14.

Avenue to sell student digs

US investor Avenue Capital has confirmed the £450m sale of its student housing portfolio, as revealed by EG (18 July, p27).

It has instructed JLL to market the opportunity, dubbed Project Rose, which comprises 6,000 bedrooms across 13 assets in five UK cities, including popular student hubs Newcastle and Nottingham.
